Our legacy Mirror app is on its way out. The good news is you can switch to new iPhone app to mirror any Sketch documents in your Workspace. Read on to find out how, and why.
What happens when Mirror is no longer supported?
The legacy Mirror app will no longer work with the latest Sketch Mac app version. Currently, the legacy Mirror app is still compatible with the latest Sketch version, but it is no longer listed in the App Store. If you previously downloaded Mirror, you’ll still be able to download it from your App Store purchase history.
What do I need if I want to mirror with the new iPhone app?
You’ll need an iPhone running iOS 15.0 or later, a Sketch account with access to one or more Workspaces, and an internet connection. To mirror documents on your iPhone as you edit them, you’ll need to have permission to edit Workspace documents.
Mirroring is much easier now, you just need to open the same document on your iPhone and on your Mac and tap the mirror icon on your phone; your devices don’t even need to be on the same network as before. Learn more about mirroring in our documentation article
How does the new iPhone app work compared to Mirror?
The new iPhone app comes with much more than mirroring: it enables you to view documents in every Workspace that you’re part of, play prototypes to test your designs, and mirror your Workspace documents too. All of this is, on the go.
We’ve put together this comparison list so you can clearly see the differences between apps:
Mirror | iPhone app | |
---|---|---|
Platform | iPhone, iPad | iPhone |
Browse documents | No | Yes |
Open documents | No | Yes |
Mirror documents | Yes (Local and Workspace) | Yes (Workspace) |
Mirror via | Local WiFi or USB cable | Internet |
Play prototypes | Only mirrored document | Any document |
Real-time updates | Only mirrored document | Any document |

Do I need a subscription to mirror with the iPhone app?
Yes, you’ll need a paid subscription to mirror documents. A subscription gives you access to a Workspace so you can create a Sketch document, save it to your Workspace, then mirror it by opening the same file on the iPhone app.
Switching to a subscription is easy — and you’ll also get powerful collaborative tools for the same price. To get started, learn more about the many benefits of switching to a subscription and choose one of these options:
- If you have an expired Mac-only license, you can switch anytime by creating a free Sketch account. If you already have one, sign in and follow these steps.
- If you have an active Mac-only license, contact our Support Team so they can help you switch over and redeem your license’s remaining time towards your subscription.
Can I keep using the legacy Mirror app?
Yes, you can keep using the legacy Mirror app — but only on a Mac app version that was released before support is dropped. When this happens, we’ll update this entry to mention which is the latest compatible version. Keep in mind that if you no longer update the Mac app you’ll also miss out on upcoming features and bug fixes.
